![]() ![]() I’ve booked a few cruises with an obstructed view before, but it wasn’t on purpose. Obstructed View Cabins A lifeboat obstructing the ocean view on Caribbean Princess. This is why a quick look at the ship’s deck plans can help clarify what you’re paying for. Near the forward part of the ship the exterior of the vessel will narrow, impacting how much space you actually have. ![]() The square footage may vary even in the same class if a set of cabins are at the bow of the ship, for instance. I always like to look at the square footage of the cabin as well, so I know if I’m just getting a better view or some extra space on top of it. Sometimes these are obstructed views or smaller porthole windows, but if you’re looking for the cheapest cabin on the ship, make sure you don’t overlook this option.Ĭombine an ocean view with a guaranteed cabin selection and you can get a cheaper rate than an interior cabin as well, so don’t assume you have to settle with a windowless room if you want to save money. ![]() I have even seen some ocean view cabins that were the same price as the inside cabins, making it an easy decision for those wanting a little more space. It may be only a few dollars more to book an ocean view stateroom over an interior stateroom, making it will worth it to have some natural light and a bit of a view. But I have seen prices between the two categories that were practically identical. ![]() Normally, an ocean view cabin will cost more than an inside or interior cabin. You may end up in a less than desirable location, and there’s nothing you can do to change it.Īfter booking your cruise your stateroom will remain unassigned for a while until the cruise line works their magic and finally reveals where you will spend your vacation.Īgain, you can check out our full list of cruise ships with solo cabins for a more comprehensive list. This is why it’s one of the cheapest cabins you can get on the ship, and it works across many categories.īut while this gets you a better deal on a cabin, it also comes with a risk. You can get a guaranteed stateroom in the interior, ocean view, balcony, or even suite category, which will guarantee a lower rate than if you had personally selected the exact stateroom location for that category. This simply means that you pick the category and the cruise line will select the cabin for you and make sure you get at least that category or higher. When selecting your cabin on a cruise booking you may see something called a guaranteed cabin rate. Guaranteed Staterooms Photo Credit: Cruise Fever Read more: Best cruise cabins and how to find them These staterooms still have all the other amenities of other cabins such as two twin beds that make into a king, nightstands, a desk, TV, closet, and mini-fridge.īefore you’re tempted to stretch your budget for a balcony cabin, remember that you’ll get to enjoy the same food, shows, and amenities on the ship as everyone else, even if you opt for the cheapest cabin on the vessel. All things being equal, this means you can go on three cruises with an inside cabin for the same price as you would pay for just two cruises with a balcony.Īs long as you don’t get claustrophobic and don’t mind a tighter space, getting in the habit of booking one of these cabins will allow you to go on more cruises. In many cases an interior stateroom is 50% to 90% cheaper than a stateroom with a balcony or veranda. How much cheaper is an inside cabin compared to a balcony cabin? But if you don’t mind the darkness, meandering the interior halls of a cruise ship to find your cabin, and wondering what time of day it is when you wake up, an interior cabin fits the bill. These cabins have no balcony, no window, and often not quite as much space. So, they show you the cost of the very cheapest cabin on the ship: an inside cabin. Cruise lines like to show a really cheap rate to make a cruise vacation look even more affordable. The advertised price you see for a cruise on a brochure or website is almost always the price for an interior cabin. Interior Cabins Interior cabin on Symphony of the Seas ![]() ![]() Elemental attacks behave differently when mixed together. However, there’s more to the mechanics once you start digging. Maybe it’s due to bots, but I’ve seen nearly everyone win their first match. It feels like something Blizzard might have made. Large projectiles combined with generous health and shields make combat feel more approachable for casual players than PUBG-or even Fortnite, with its unwieldy building system. However, if a foe catches you first, they can then exile you for good. ![]() You can slowly move around for a limited amount of time searching for a teammate to revive you. If you die when playing with teammates, you become a ball of light. With only 42 players at once instead of 100, matches breeze by whether you play solo, duo (not rolled out yet by the developers at time of testing), or in a squad of three. The big, flashy magical spells turn fights into explosive spectacles-more frantic and more exciting than hiding in a bathtub with a shotgun. During one match, a teammate created a continuous slick ice path for us to run faster and escape the storm, a very cool, Iceman-esque move. Even by default, characters have huge jumps and can hover over gaps while firing, leading to many high-flying encounters straight out of Crackdown 3 or a superhero movie. You’ll also find and swap runes that grant access to another special ability-usually a new movement option like dashing, teleporting, or rising up into the air. Drop a waypoint near a glowing orb so your team can protect you as you open a legendary chest. The game does a great job telling you if the gear you find is useful or not. ![]() Other gear includes health potions, belts that allow you to equip shields, faster boots, and gauntlet upgrades. However, from the basic framework, the game quickly diverges from battle royale conventions. You’ve seen this in everything from Apex Legends to Call of Duty: Warzone to Realm Royale, which also added a fantasy style. You scavenge for gear and destroy anyone in your path while a storm closes in. ![]() Initially, Spellbreak should seem instantly familiar to anyone who has played a battle royale. So how did Spellbreak, a game whose whole hook is being a fantasy battle royale, become one of my favorite PC game surprises of the year? Ironically, by using the creative potential of the fantasy genre, it breathes new life into the tired battle royale formula. Whether it’s the realism of PUBG or the wackiness of Fortnite, I find games where you compete to be the last one standing more boring than tense. Game of Thrones? Lord of the Rings? World of Warcraft? Nope, not for me. ![]() ![]() ![]() Aside from our cars, we’re afforded some basic driver avatar customisation, too. You can turn all these elements off if you want, or just race in a factory colour, but even in single-player races you’re still going to find yourself pitted against a bunch of dorky-looking lime-green AI Ferraris covered in more stickers than a child’s bicycle. I find all three distracting and garish flaming eight-balls look pretty daft on the side of anything. ![]() It’s not a completely freeform livery editor like the one found in the Forza series, however it’s more like Grid Autosport, where you choose from a bunch of pre-set patterns, icons and numbers. Performance upgrades and tuning aren’t featured, although visual customisation is. ![]() But car lovers are nothing if not tribal, and this surprisingly insular day-one vehicle roster is going to rustle some jimmies. No doubt there’s some great stuff in Driveclub, including some properly amazing, lesser-known models that even the completely stacked Gran Turismo series is still omitting. More bafflingly, there are no Japanese cars at all. There’s actually only a single American car – the Hennessey Venom GT – and even that’s really just a Texas-built powerplant shipped over to the UK and manhandled into a modified Lotus Exige. They sound exceptional too Gran Turismo could learn a lot from this example.ĭriveclub looks amazing at night. It’s strange that the car list is so heavily biased towards European models, though almost exclusively so, in fact. Even little touches like the custom door-opening sequences, tailored to the configuration of the exterior and interior door handles, go a long way in making these rides feel real in a way racing games rarely manage. Supercars like the Marussia B2 have fully functioning screens for their rear-facing cameras mounted in the centre console in lieu of a rear-view mirror, too, which developer Evolution captured exquisitely. They’re best enjoyed from inside the cabins, where the attention to detail is so extreme that even the windscreens show those subtle semi-circle scuffs on the glass you get from the wipers when the glare of the sun catches them. Driveclub’s car selection is nicely curated to represent some of Europe’s most desirable sports cars, grand tourers, supercars and hypercars, plus a smattering of hot hatches as an entry point. The biggest problem I had with it is that the handling’s too sticky to make the drift events much fun I generally found myself getting bogged down mid-corner because it’s surprisingly difficult to maintain momentum. I found it satisfying and entirely in line with Driveclub’s direction, even if it’s a fraction simplistic. Even if the back end does step out it generally only takes a smidge of countersteering to correct it. In keeping with the overall arcade sensibilities, even with a bootful of throttle Driveclub’s high-horsepower hypercars spring from the line with only moderate wheelspin, and they seem mostly reluctant to about-face mid-corner in an orgy of oversteer. ![]() The 50 cars in Driveclub brake hard and grip like glue, but the driving model is still nuanced enough to let you feel the difference between a bulky Bentley Continental GT and an eager John Cooper Works-tuned Mini. Play Handling trends towards the arcade side of the spectrum, yet it’s considerably less superficial than something like Burnout. ![]() ![]() It's worth noting that Sniper Elite 5 is more unashamedly gruesome than ever before. Not only do the maps flow more organically, but Fairburne is more elegant in his traversal of them, able to weave gracefully between Nazi patrols and dispatch enemies at close quarters with quick, brutal melee kills. There's a giant radar dish to sabotage, a bunch of 'eighty-eight' artillery guns to scupper, and a picturesque village where a Nazi general wanders around waiting to have his skull ventilated.Įven at this stage, Sniper Elite 5 feels like a marked improvement over previous games. The opening mission sets the standard for all that follows, taking place in a sprawling chunk of the Normandy coastline that compiles all the greatest hits of the French liberation. Sniper Elite 5 kicks off before the events of D-Day, with veteran brain-popper Karl Fairburne slipping behind the Atlantic Wall to rendezvous with the French Resistance and lay the groundwork for the invasion. Instead, the fallow fields of France force Rebellion to be more resourceful in their level design, and the studio reinvigorates the setting with inventive locations and an intricate eye for detail. By all logic Sniper Elite 5 should feel more derivative than the previous games. I'm more familiar with the hedgerows of Normandy than I am with my own back garden, and find the idea of playing a game set there similarly unexciting. Of all the second world war theatres, Operation Overlord is the most exhaustively explored by video games, replicated endlessly since 2002's Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. Sniper Elite 5 finds that spark in an unlikely place: the Allied invasion of France. It just needed a spark of inspiration to make it excellent. Sniper Elite has been dependably entertaining for a while. ![]() The maps have grown larger, more open and more ambitious while the once clunky movement and combat have become steadily more refined. While known mainly for its 'X-Ray' system, which lets you watch your bullets pass through enemy bodies in grotesque anatomical detail, Sniper Elite has been slowly unveiling its potential since 2014's tour of Africa in Sniper Elite 3. With the benefit of hindsight, there were signs Sniper Elite might turn into something special. ![]()

It puts a creative spin on the dungeon diving Diablike, and does away with the incessant clicking and faffing about that often puts me off those. Compounding this is the way its cut scenes (which to their credit are short but still skippable) play immediately after a failed run, ie at the exact moment you don't want to see a cut scene. However much the narrator rumbles and the script tries to talk about things weighing heavily on shoulders and love and bravery and this and that, if I simply said "The Corruption is spreading", you'd already know everything about it. It's a generic story, ponderously told, and the promise of shaking it up with the family angle is undermined by its not particularly interesting characters. The concept is terrific but I just had no reason to care. Now read that last sentence aloud slowly enough that it takes several minutes, and as though it's the most profound thing ever said. Each has their own weapons and talents, and there are endless cut scenes about how they all come together to stop the evil purple goop coming down the mountain to englubben everything. Instead of classes you choose a member of the family to delve into the ISO standard monster cave underneath the family mansion. It's a slashy light Diablo-ish game without the loot.
